Dani is the phenomenal writer of Positively Present. (Even the motto rocks! “Living Happily Ever Now”) She’s bringing the awesome and changing her life in the process!
The change from from an Eeyore to being positively present has not been an easy or quick one. I’ve known for years (ever since I was a little kid) that I was looking a life through a negative lens. I used to just accept that and assume that was who I was and it wasn’t going to change.
Last year a few things happened to me that I really related to my negativity (and my drinking) and I realized: things had to change. I don’t think it was one thing in particular. It was a lot of things that had been building up for decades and I just got to the point where I realized that no one was going to change my life for me.
It was up to me to make a change.
People used to call Chris an “emotionless robot”. (Crazy, right?!) But I knew better. If his family had been watching their Star Trek, they would have known he was nothing like Data.
He was a Vulcan!

In order for their society to survive, Vulcans learned to suppress their deep and volatile emotions with the pursuit of logic. While Vulcans seem emotionless and unfeeling, they in fact feel more deeply than the average human.
[NOTE: This is not a review of the latest Star Trek movie. If it were, this entry would contain the word "awesome" about a bajillion times followed by oodles of exclamation marks.]
For as long as I’ve known her, Chris’s incredible mother has been fighting cancer.
She’s had breast cancer twice, a mastectomy on one side, and is still having routine follow-up. Yesterday, her doctors discovered a rare form of liver cancer that is inoperable.
They’ve given her 8 months to live.
I do not have the body of a dancer. Not lean, not long, not lithe. Too much on top, too much on the bottom. But my soul?
My soul is the soul of a dancer.
I’ve talked about how much I love dance before, but it really is difficult to express just how vital dance is to me. I need it as much as my body needs air; without dance my soul would wither.
I love delicious things. I love delicious chocolate things. People know I love delicious chocolate things. And thus, every year on my birthday, my kitchen is awash with things both delicious and chocolate!
This year, I’ve received something incredibly special. It isn’t edible and it definitely isn’t chocolate, yet I still have enough for everyone in the class.
A huge thanks to Mscc54 for sending this to me, and to everyone who has been so…amazing and full of love and well-wishes!
Thank you!
Just who is Ivan-the-Awesome? Ivan is a men’s fashion and marketing liaison in Detroit, Michigan. His passion is fashion.

Exhibit "A"
While fashion is inextricably tied to the feminine in our social consciousness, men are often purveyors of style. (I’m looking at you, Tim Gunn!)
And purvey Ivan does, starting at the very beginning. ”You have to know the rules before you can bend them to your will!”
