Just who is Ivan-the-Awesome? Ivan is a men’s fashion and marketing liaison in Detroit, Michigan. His passion is fashion.

Exhibit "A"
While fashion is inextricably tied to the feminine in our social consciousness, men are often purveyors of style. (I’m looking at you, Tim Gunn!)
And purvey Ivan does, starting at the very beginning. ”You have to know the rules before you can bend them to your will!”
I want men to care more about what they look like, because money isn’t everything! …and I want the world to share my joy!
“Art is life,” and “life is what you make it” – so I live to “make” my life.
In his dedication to making the world a better looking place in a town known for anything but its style, Ivan has quickly become the assistant manager despite being in school and holding another job.
Passion is a process!
I’m working on my blog, as well as building one for the store along w/a website, commercials, Facebook page, etc – the whole “guerrilla marketing kit” that the young kids are using these
days.
As soon as the blog in question, Detroit Gentleman, graces the internet, we’ll know because the force of it’s awesome will cause a rift in the space-time continuum!
Sharing the Love!
You can contact Ivan at vestrydetroit [at] yahoo [dot] com with any questions about how to bring more style to the masculine wardrobe.

Ivan, way to be awesome!
I’m pretty into fashion myself so it’s great to read about someone else who shares a passion for style.

Dear Ivan;
I am a married guy (35 years) with three grown biological daughters. When the girls were growing up we used to love to take them to the beach. As a matter of fact they have children of their own now and are taking them to the beach.
My Mrs. and I are adopting a five year old boy and (sister) seven year old girl. I would like to take them to the beach like we did our previous children. However, I am a bit confused about the style at the beach now a days for fifty-four year old caucasion males.
Here’s what I’m thinking; I’ll get me a couple of pair of board-shorts (one with colors and one more on the neutral side. However, since I am much older now I’m just wondering…. should I wax my back or go European?
Thanks for your help!
Older Daddy (not wanting to embarrass the new kids)

mssc54 – you’re still going to the beach? I’m about your age and I’ve quit going. The last time I was there people kept trying to shove me back into the water!

@mssc54:
Props to you for having such a huge heart and stepping up in a role most people shrink away from. You have my deepest sincere respect and may God continue to prosper you in ways most of us can’t even imagine.
Now on to the clothes! Best word of advice: dress your age! If you’re 54, it’s cool. You don’t have to look 24…you’ve been there and done that. Cargo short would probably be a good look for you – stick to basic colors like tan, olive, lt. grey, etc. These colors are easily accessible and easy to accessorize – especially khaki, because it has become the new “blue jean.”
If you’re a hairy guy, I would advise a t-shirt to avoid an extreme makeover. However, if you’re determined to go “topless,” then yes – please clean it up, at least. You may not have to take it all off, but at least keep the hair manageable – ala Tom Selleck circa 1985. LOL
Most of all, it matters not what you wear to your children because they’re just happy to have YOU! Seriously. Mark my words. They love you already…they’re glad to have someone who cares about them in their lives. Keep doing what you’re doing and the rest won’t matter.
